What Makes A Divorce Uncontested?

An uncontested divorce means that both parties have reached an agreement regarding all material terms and conditions in their divorce. Such an agreement will include a process for dividing all assets and debts, as well as an agreement on spousal/child support when appropriate, and child custody. Even though both parties may think that they understand the agreement that has been reached, it is always a good idea to have an attorney review your agreement and make certain that the terms of the agreement are clearly stated and consistent with the law.

An uncontested divorce can be finalized immediately if the parties agree and a set of legal documents, including a general judgment of dissolution of marriage, is completed. Once these documents are signed by a circuit court judge, your divorce is final.
